International students

International students ( who apply from abroad to study in QFIS and has no permanent residence in the State of Qatar ) may apply for all degrees offered by QFIS. They must meet the minimum admission requirement to be able to enter the country and have all their required documents. The equivalency letter can be obtained immediately after their arrival.

Minimum Admission Criteria:

Prospective International students are invited to contact the Admission Department to inquire about QFIS programs, admissions, and available financial grants.
Admission and Scholarship applications of prospective International students are processed only for those who satisfy the minimum program admission requirements.
Admission to postgraduate programs is predicated by the applicant holding a bachelor's degree, a demonstration of proficiency in English and passing the Arabic placement test in the language center and any other requirements that the academic program deems relevant. At a minimum, to be considered for admission into a post graduate program in Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies, the applicant must have:
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited University with a minimum Grade of VERY GOOD or its equivalent;
  • A TOEFL score of 550 or 79 on the Internet-Base test or ILETS score of 6.0, except the Master of Arts in Islamic Studies with a Specialization in Contemporary Fiqh and Master of Arts in Islamic Studies with a Specialization In Comparative Religions, which require a score of 5 in the IELTS or 450 in the TOEFL.
  • A passing grade in the Arabic Placement Test.
  • A phone interview to ensure Arabic language skills prior the final admission decision.
Important Note: the admission department will submit all the applications received to be approved by the admission and the Scholarship committee, and an acceptance letter will be sent to each applicant to clarify their admission status, the process of registration and the scholarship policy.

The Admission for the International candidates starts : 1 January 2016

Required Documents for Admission

  • Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies Graduate Admission Application.
  • Copy of the passport.
  • Certified copy of the Bachelor degree certificate (Minimum Grade Very Good) from an accredited university or college or equivalent in that country.
  • Final, official certified university transcript(s).
  • Two recent passport size photographs.
  • Score report of English proficiency based on the program admission requirement.
  • Pass Arabic Test with minimum score 80% in language center after arrival in Qatar.
Certification of documents
Admitted students are requested to certify their documents before their arrival to Qatar, otherwise their registration will be cancelled.
  • Bachelor degree Certificates obtained abroad must be certified by the Ministry of Higher Education where the Certificate was delivered, and by,
  • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of origin, and Qatar Embassy of that country.
International Scholarship
The students with financial support are compelled to meet admission requirement in order to maintain the scholarship, which will be certainly renewed every semester with the following criteria:
  • A Student has to be in a Good academic standing i.e. a semester GPA not less than 3.0 out of 4.0.
  • A student has to complete thier course of study and graduate in a minimum of 2.5 years and a maximum 4 years.
  • A student has to register formally putting registration on hold is allowed only after the approval of the Dean, in which case all the services included in the scholarship will be restricted , so that the student will not be allowed to have the student allowance dorm or transportation services.
  • The minimum number of courses registered during the fall / spring are 3, and the maximum are 4.
  • The summer registration is compulsory if the student is graduating.
  • The scholarship will be withdraw immediately if the student decide to terminate their studies before completing the degree or if they are terminated by QFIS for an academic or non-academic reason.
  • The scholarship awarded to the student does not include any family expenses.
  • The student should keep the Admission Department informed of their most recent contact information including address, email, and phone numbers.


Services Offered to international students

1- Residence and Exit Permits:
  • International Students who are sponsored by QFIS should get an Exit Permit from QF. To obtain the exit permit, students should complete a special exit permit form (available at the Admission Department).
  • The exit permit form should be approved and signed by the Admission and the Financial Departments.
  • If the scholarship has been canceled, the residence permit will be canceled and a one way airline ticket will be issued.
  • If the student stays out of Qatar more than six months, without submitting an official request clarifying the reason for delay, the residence permit will be canceled.
  • Students have to bring their passports  to the Admission Department for renewal of their residency at least two weeks ahead of expiry date.
  • QFIS has the right to claim all or part of any expenses due to the student's failure to meet deadlines.
  • International Students sponsored by QFIS are NOT allowed to work in Qatar.
  • Graduate students should depart the country for good, after the issuance of the Graduation statement .

2- Annual airline tickets:
QFIS will provide the International Students with the following tickets:
  • The ticket will be provided ONLY to student’s home country.
  • Graduated student will only have one way ticket to his home country, after cancellation of resident permit.
  • The student’s registration for warned student who failed to attain required score in the examination and remains on probation will be stopped; the scholarship and resident permit will be canceled and will be provided one-way ticket to his country.
Married Marital Status Student:
  • One way ticket first time coming to Doha.
  • Two ways ticket in the mid of the academic year (in between semesters)
  • Annual Ticket during the summer vacation. 
  • One way ticket to home country after graduation.
 Single Marital Status Student:
  • One way ticket first time coming to Doha.
  • Annual Ticket during the summer vacation.
  • One way ticket to home country after graduation.

3- Students Housing:
Students will be provided accomodation with the following regulations:
  • International Scholarship students living in QF housing are expected to adhere to all rules, regulations, and policies pertaining to student housing.
  • Students must keep their room/ flat in a reasonable state of cleanliness.
  • Any damage or loss of the room/ flat contents is the student’s responsibility.
  • The students should leave the accommodation as soon as they receive a notification from the concerned department for the following reason (graduated, dismissed, withdrawn).
  • Students are required to respect Qatar’s traditions, such as: violations of alcohol,drugs and those of a sexual nature, misconduct will result in loss of housing and/or expulsion.
  • Adherence to the rules and regulations of QF Housing is mandatory and any violation of these regulations may result in canceling the scholarship.

4- Free Transportation:
  • Daily transportation is provided to and from QF housing several times a day.
