Brief description:
The New Zealand-ASEAN Scholar Awards are scholarships for international students from Southeast Asian countries who wants to pursue postgraduate studies in New Zealand with the intention to help in the development of their home countries. Depending on the country, the scholarships are available for: Postgraduate Certificate (6 months), Postgraduate Diploma (1 year), Masters Degree (1 – 2 years), or PhD (3 – 4 years).

Subject areas that are relevant to the sustainable development needs of your country (i.e. renewable energy, agriculture, fisheries, disaster risk management, natural resource management, health, and education).  Find out the preferred subjects for your country.
Target group:
Brunei, Cambodia,  Indonesia,  Lao PDR,  Myanmar, Malaysia,  Philippines,  Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Scholarship value/inclusions:
The scholarships include a fortnightly living allowance, an establishment allowance, medical and travel insurance, travel to and from your home country at the start and end of your scholarship, home leave or reunion travel for some students, and assistance with research and thesis costs for most postgraduate research students.
Eligibility:
Applicants must meet the following conditions to be eligible for a New Zealand Scholarship:
• Be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of commencing your scholarship.
• Be a citizen of the country from which you are applying for a scholarship and have resided in that country for at least the last two years.
• Agree to return to your home country for a minimum of two years on completion of the scholarship.
